Conclusion

I really enjoyed writing this blog. Even if nobody ever probably read it, it was fun to get my ideas out and talk about the tv shows I like and dont like. I hope I didn't create too man enemies with my Glee entry! Normally, I would lie and say that I plan on continuing this blog but honestly, I'm not sure I even have the time to.

If I was to continue the blog, I would pick a wider variety of shows. I've picked mainly comedic shows so far. Maybe I would choose shows like CSI or House, or maybe a show I dont have any idea about like Big Bang Theory. Other shows I like are How I Met Your Mother, Scrubs, The Community, and Parks and Receration.

I hope I came off as insightful and informative. I hope you weren't bored to death by reading this entries and I would not be offended if you read half an entry and stopped reading. But lastly and most importantly, I hope I was able to answer the question of what to watch!

Psych

One of the least widely known shows, Psych, is a crime detective show on the USA network. The show started in July of 2006. It was the highest ranked basic cable premiere in the United States for that year. The show could almost be refered to as a comedic spoof on crime shows for its frequent use of comedy. It is currently in its sixth season.

The show follows a private psychic detective agency created by Shawn Spencer(James Roday) and Burton Guster(Dule Hill). The catch is that Shawn is not an actual psychic but really a man with extremely good attention to detail. He uses his photographic memory and observation skills to fake psychic visions and help the Santa Barbra Police Department solve crimes. Shawn's best friend is Burton, or Gus as most people call him. Gus is a foil to Shawn and their constant bickering about how to go about solving problems creates plenty of comedic situations.

Psych is a really funny show. It combines two of America's favorite genres; comedy and mystery, in excellent fashion. However, the main story has seemed to lack very much substance and has caused me to lose some interest. I believe shows, even crime shows that focus on one crime per show, need some string of the plot that is continued from week to week. Psych tries to perform this with the relationship forming between Shawn and a detective named Juliet O'Hara (Maggie Lawson). It has lacked any real direction. Overall, Psych is one of my favorites and it is impressive how they come up with some new and interesting crime for ever new installment. I give Psych 7 out of 10 stars.

Im not a Gleek.

On September 9th, 2009 a new television craze swept the nation. The shows singing and dancing to hit songs made thousands upon thousands of fans obsessed. Glee, currently in its third season, averages 10million viewers a show. It ranked 33rd according to Nielsen Media Research in 2009-2010, its first season. Despite all it's success. I did not jump on the band wagon.

The premise of the show is the emergence of a glee club at William McKinley High School. It deals with the Glee club's struggle in gaining respect in the school and competing in tournaments. Social issues and drama are, of course, a part of the struggle. Fear of pregnancy, being handicapped and gay prosecution all are brought up.

I do not find what is so appealing about this show. It takes songs that were already good and amazing and redoes them with teenage singers. It's like an older Kid's Bop. The remakes aren't even that great either. I don't think their interpretations do the artists justice. The high school drama makes me want to vomit. Who cares about whose in the Glee club and how the cheerleaders are treating each other in some dumb show; I get enough of that crap at school. For these reasons, I give Glee a 4 out of 10 stars for at least being able to pick good songs to ruin.

The Office

By far, one of my all time favorite shows would have to be NBC's "The Office". It took the idea of the show from the BBC version in the United Kingdom created by Ricky Gervais and Stephan Merchant. The show was cancelled due to low rating after only two seasons. In 2005, NBC choose to adapt "The Office" for American Viewers. Greg Daniels was called on to be executive producer for the show.

"The Office" is a fake documentary, or as some call it a "mockumentary", of a Scranton, Pennsylvania paper company. The show, for its first seven seasons, had the hilarious actor, Steve Carrell, playing as Michael Scott, the branch manager. His outrageous interactions with the rest of the cast helped make the show a humungous success. Every week viewers tuned in to find out what Michael would do next. Michael wasn't alone though, it seemed that everyone else in The Office was a little crazy too. However, the show wrote in two "normal" people that one could relate to; Jim Halpert(John Kransinski), a salesman and Pam Beasely(Jenna Fischer), the receptionist. The two have an obvious attraction to each other but there's a catch, Pam is engaged to a warehouse worker. I wont give it away but a lot of drama unfolds and it kept me hooked on the show.

It the most recent season, season 8, these two main factors of the show, Steve Carell and Jim and Pam's romantic endeavors, had hit their peak and began to fade out. Steve Carell left the show and Jim and Pam were happily married and with a child, (sorry for the spoiler!). Without these two things, mainly believed the show would come to an end and be no longer fun to watch. On the contrary, I believe the show has done an excellent job maintaining interest as well as humor. The experimented with potential fill-ins for the manager postion, like Will Ferell for example, and eventually settled on Andrew Bernard(Ed Helms). Being one of the most awkward and gullible people in The Office, Andy was a good fit. Jim and Pam's romance was kept alive with cute interactions and reassurance after Pam gets  jealous of a coworker. Also, the romance between Andy and Erin(the new receptionist) is continued although this will never be quite the same because they are more difficult to relate to.

Overall, I think "The Office" is a great series and is sure to give you a couple, no, several laughs with every new show. I do agree, however, that it is on a slight downturn from the first six seasons but will still be fun to enjoy. For these reasons, I give "The Office" 10 out of 10 stars for the first six seasons and 8 out of 10 stars for the past two seasons.

Introduction

In my Writer's Workshop class, I was assigned to write a blog that combines my love of writing and my love of something else. At first this seemed easy, I love a lot of things; Sports (Soccer, Basketball, and Football), Running (XC and Track), Movies (Comedies epecially), TV shows, and Video Games. But then we were told we needed to be able to write three seperate entries about your chosen subject. That when I had to start taking some off the list.

Since my XC season is over now and if I talked about past weeks of running it would get kind of redundant, I decided that wasn't a good subject. The MLS season is over now and it ended with a bad loss by my favorite team, Sporting KC, so I really dont want to relive those memories. Although I love watching football, I dont really have a team that I am a big fan of. If I had to choose a team it would be the Cheifs, but they arent doing to hot lately. Kansas Basketball is so much fun to watch but I dont always have the time to watch the randomly scheduled games during the week. School has taken prescendence over video games and movies so those were off the list. I was left with TV shows.

I always find time to watch my favorite TV shows during the week. I use Hulu to watch them on my own time. Most of the time, I multitask and do homework at the same time. This probably isn't the best idea but I got to watch my shows! My favorite are comedies but everyonce in a while I get into dramas and mysteries. I am going to use my love of writing and love of television to critque popular TV shows. You may not agree with what I say, these are purely my opinions, but hopefully they help you decide what to watch next!
